OCONEE RIVER BRIDGE, DUBLIN, GEORGIA 1921-1953

OCONEE RIVER BRIDGE
Dublin, Georgia

Built 1920-21
Dismantled 1953

This bridge, costing $190,000.00 in Federal funds  to construct, was completed on May 4, 1921.  The bridge, built by the Southern Bridge Company originally spanned 1526 feet in length.

The roadway was 20 feet wide.  The bridge, lit by electric lights, had pedestrian sidewalks on both sides.

The bridge was built of mostly concrete, except the center steel span, which was designed to spin at a 90-degree angle to allow tall boats to pass underneath.
